The seventeenth-annual Orange Prize for Fiction has announced its 2012 shortlist. The international award celebrates excellence, originality and accessibility in women’s writing throughout the world. The shortlisted authors are:

| Madeline Miller | The Song of Achilles |
| Cynthia Ozick | Foreign Bodies |
| Ann Patchett | State of Wonder |
The judges for the 2012 Orange Prize for Fiction are:
- Joanna Trollope, (Chair), Writer
- Lisa Appignanesi, Writer, Novelist and Broadcaster
- Victoria Derbyshire, Journalist and Broadcaster
- Natalie Haynes, Writer and Broadcaster
- Natasha Kaplinsky, Broadcaster
The winner will be announced on 30 May 2012 at an award ceremony in London.
Last year's winner was The Tiger's Wife by Tea Obreht.
