About this download

Media manager allows you to transfer music, videos and pictures from your hard disk drive or from a CD to your WALKMAN.

You can rip audio CDs in the following formats (At 256, 192, 160, 128, 96, 64 and 32kbps) to store them on your hard disk drive or transfer them to your WALKMAN:

  • AAC-LC format
  • MP3 format

You can also import the following file formats from your computer or hard disk drive to Media Manager:

  • Audio
    The following file formats can be imported to media manager for WALKMAN:
    • MP3
    • AAC-LC
    • WMA
    • WAV
    • FLAC
    • OGG
    • RSS: MP3 format and AAC-LC
    Once you have transferred audio files to Media Manager, you can transfer them to your WALKMAN in the following formats:
    • MP3 format
    • AAC-LC format
      Files not already in this format will be automatically converted in Media Manager before being transferred to your WALKMAN.
  • Photo
    The following file formats can be imported to media manager for WALKMAN JPEG format
    • GIF format
    • PNG format
    • BMP format
    • TIFF format
    Once you have transferred image files to Media Manager, you can transfer them to your WALKMAN in the following formats:
    • JPEG format
      Files not already in this format will be automatically converted in Media Manager before being transferred to your WALKMAN.
  • Video
    Importing to media manager for WALKMAN:
    • QuickTime format
    • WMV format
    • MPEG4 Simple Profile format
    • AVC (H.264/AVC) Baseline, Main Profile
    • RSS: QuickTime format / MPEG4 SP format / AVC (H.264/AVC) Baseline, Main Profile

Media Manager also allows you to get track information such as released year and composer with CDDB - a distributed network CD database that contains information about most Audio CDs in circulation.

You can also add RSS feeds and transfer the music, video and photo files that have been downloaded from RSS channels.

Make sure you have all the latest features by downloading the most recent update of Media Manager for WALKMAN, whether you're a first-time user or upgrading your current version.

    • Media Manager for WALKMAN has no video file conversion function (this is only available with Media Manager Pro for WALKMAN)
    • Does not support WMV-DRM files
    • Enhanced CD functions (CD Extra) is not playable on Media Manager for WALKMAN
    • When updating an existing version of Media Manager for WALKMAN to version 1.2, folder shortcuts in the PC pane are not preserved. You'll need to add your shortcuts again after updating. Your subscribed podcasts are preserved during the update

System Requirements

Check your operating system

The latest version of Media Manager for WALKMAN is compatible with most commonly used versions of windows . Before downloading and installing the software, make sure you are running one of the following operating systems:

  • Windows XP Home Edition (Service Pack 2 or later)
  • Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2 or later)
  • Windows Vista Home Basic (Service Pack 1 or later)
  • Windows Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 1 or later)
  • Windows Vista Ultimate (Service Pack 1 or later)
  • Windows Vista Business (Service Pack 1 or later)

Media Manager for WALKMAN is not supported on Windows 64 bit operating systems, MAC computers or any other operating system not listed above.

All Operating Systems need to be factory preinstalled. We can't guarantee operations on systems which have been upgraded, personally constructed or exist as one of many systems (that's to say, in multi-boot environments).

Check your hardware and software

You will also need to have the following hardware to install Media Manager for WALKMAN

  • Computer: IBM PC/AT or compatible
  • CPU: Pentium(r) 4 Processor 1.0GHz or faster recommended
  • Memory: 512MB or more recommended
  • Hard disk space: 200MB or more of available space
  • Windows compatible Sound Board
  • Internet access

We also recommend using the following software to ensure you can install and run Media Manager for WALKMAN :

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. (this is automatically downloaded from the internet during installation)
  • QuickTime(r) 7.0 or later (QuickTime 7.0 or later is automatically download from the internet during installation)
  • Windows Media Player(r) 10 or later recommended
  • Internet Explorer(r) 6.0 or later recommended
  • Windows Media Format 11 Runtime

Download instructions

Before you install Media Manager for Walkman you will need to download the installer - this makes sure you have all the files you need to install the software.

First, you need to make sure your user account allows you to download and install new software on your computer:

  • Make sure you are logged on as a "Computer Administrator". You can check to make sure your user account has the correct permissions by clicking Start>control panel> user accounts in the task tray.
  • If you are using Windows XP, you will also need to make sure your user account is set to 'Administrators' or 'Power Users' in order to use Media Manager for WALKMAN.

Follow the steps below to download Media Manager for WALKMAN:

  1. Make sure you are connected to the internet.
  2. Set up a folder on your hard disk where you can store the downloaded file. Assume the folder is named lite_WMM12_dl and has been saved in the C drive.
  3. Download the file by clicking the link below and save it into the folder created at Step2: mm4wm12_lite.exe (49,191KB).
  4. After the download is completed, select Views>Details in Explorer to check the size of the file. If the file size is not the same as the file size above, try to download the file again.

Note: Do not make the system go into suspend, sleep, or hibernation mode during the download.

Install the software

Once the file has downloaded, you're ready to install Media Manager for Walkman.

To install the software, simply follow the instructions listed below for your operating system.

For Windows XP/Vista

  1. Quit any software you are currently using.
  2. Navigate to the folder where you saved the file in the instructions above - this should be called lite_WMM12_dl .
  3. Double click on the folder
  4. Double click on the file mm4wm12_lite.exe .
  5. A window may now appear saying 'The following components are required by this software'. This will download the following components needed to run Media Manager for WALKMAN:
    • Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1
    • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
    • Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
    • Microsoft Wmf 11 Redist for MTP Support
    • QuickTime 7.0 or later
  6. Media Manager for WALKMAN Version 1.2 installer window will appear on screen.
  7. Follow the on screen instructions to complete installation.
  8. Click Finish after installation.
  9. Check whether the installation is completed successfully.
