How to get sound from headphones and the TV speakers at the same time

    IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

    Before you start

    • Some TV models cannot output sound from both the headphones and the TV speakers at the same time. For details, refer to your TV manual.
    • Some Android TV™ models released after 2018 have different specifications. If your model is included in the list below, refer to the following article for more information: There is no sound from either the TV speakers, Bluetooth headphones or audio device connected to the TV headphone jack.
      • 2021 models: A90J, A80J_A83J_A84J, X95J, X90J_X92J_X93J_X94J, X85J_X89J, X80J_X81J_X82J, and Z9J series
      • 2020 models: XH80, XH81, XH85_XH91, XH90_XH92, XH95, ZH8, A8, and A9 series
      • 2019 models: AG9, XG85_XG87, XG95, and ZG9 series
      • 2018 models: AF9 and ZF9 series

    How to set up the TV

    For Android TVs (Except for the models listed below):

    1. Make sure your TV model is NOT on the following list: 
      • 2021 models: A90J, A80J_A83J_A84J, X95J, X90J_X92J_X93J_X94J, X85J_X89J, X80J_X81J_X82J, and Z9J series
      • 2020 models: XH80, XH81, XH85_XH91, XH90_XH92, XH95, ZH8, A8, and A9 series
      • 2019 models: AG9, XG85_XG87, XG95, and ZG9 series
      • 2018 models: AF9 and ZF9 series
    2. Using the supplied remote control, press the HOME button.
    3. Select  Settings.
    4. The following steps will depend on your TV menu options:
      • Select Display & Sound > Audio output.
      • Select Sound.
    5. Select Headphone/Audio out.
    6. Select Audio out (Fixed).
    7. On the remote control, press the BACK button.
    8. Select Headphone speaker link.
      Note:  If the Headphone speaker link is not shown, select Audio to both TV speakers & other device to enable it, and skip Step 8.
    9. Select Speakers on.

    For other TVs:

    Note: The following steps are an example. For full details, refer to your TV manual.

    1. Using the supplied remote control, press the HOME button.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Preferences or System Settings.
    4. Select Setup.
    5. Select AV Setup.
    6. Select Headphone/Audio out.
    7. Select Audio out.
    8. Press the BACK or RETURN button to go back to AV Setup.
    9. Select Audio out.
    10. Select Fixed.

    How to connect the headphones to the TV

    You can connect your headphones to the TV via a headphone cable or Bluetooth. For more information, refer to the BRAVIA Headphones Connectivity Guide.

    Using a headphone cable

    1. Insert the headphone cable into the AUDIO OUT (headphones) terminal on the back of the TV.
      Note: After successfully inserting the cable into the headphone terminal, a message may display at the bottom of the TV screen to indicate the connection is complete.
    2. Check if you can hear audio from a TV program or connected device from the headphones.

    Using Bluetooth

    Note: TVs that can connect to Bluetooth audio devices are limited to Android TVs that support the A2DP profile. To check your model's compatibility, refer to this article: Can I use Bluetooth headphones, speakers, and soundbars with my Android TV or Google TV? 

    1. Set the headphones to pairing mode.
      • The procedure to set to pairing mode varies depending on your headphones. For details, refer to your TV manual.
    2. Pair the headphones with the TV.
      • Set the TV to pairing mode:
        1. Press the HOME button on the remote control.
        2. Select Settings > Bluetooth setting > Add device.
        3. Press the ENTER button.
      • Pair the headphones with the TV:
        1. Place the headphones in pairing mode within 1 metre of the TV. 
        2. Once the TV detects the headphones, the device name will be displayed at the upper right of the screen. Select it and press the ENTER button.
          Note: The pairing is complete when the text under the device name changes to Paired and a Bluetooth connection is complete message is displayed.
        3. Using the remote control, select the desired program or connected device input.
        4. Check if you can hear audio from the TV program or connected device from the headphones.
