The port replicator is not required when using your TV. However, the port replicator does make it easy to keep the appearance of the TV clean by minimizing all of the wires that are connected to the back.
For example, your PlayStation system, Handycam camcorder, Digital Camera, cable box or other devices could be connected directly to the port replicator. From the port replicator only one cable is then needed to connect to the TV, making it easier to keep a clean and simple appearance.
