Do I need to create a Google ID at the beginning of the setup, and if so, how do I proceed?

When you initially set up your Sony's Android TV for the first time, you will be asked to "sign in to Google". A Google account cannot be created on your TV.

Although your TV shares some similarities to other devices that run the same operating system (OS) - Android 5.0 Lollipop - it does not share the same functionality or behave in the same way as the OS found on your PC, tablet or smartphone. The apps and OS available have been optimised for your Sony's Android TV.

You do not need a Google ID  to complete the initial setup process or to use basic functions on your TV, such as viewing digital broadcast via cable. However, to get the most out of your Sony's Android TV - like downloading new apps from the Google Play Store - you will need a Google ID/account.  

For Android 8.0 (Oreo) 

NOTE: The display screen may differ depending on the device or OS version. The following is just an example.

1. Using the TV remote control, press the HOME button.
   
    
    
2. Select  Settings ( the settings icon is located in the top right-hand corner)
3. Select Add account in the Accounts categories.
   
    
4. Enter the Email address and select NEXT.
   
   
   NOTE: Use the Navi buttons to use the on-screen keyboard and press the center button to select.
   
    
5. Enter the Password and select NEXT.
   
    
6. After you have successfully logged in, the Google icon with the mark G will be displayed together with the email address used to log in.
   
   
   NOTE: You can delete your account, sync your account, or sync your apps by selecting the Google icon displayed.

For Android 7.0 (Nougat) or earlier

NOTE: The display screen may differ depending on the device or OS version. The following is just an example.

1. Using the TV remote control, press the HOME button.
   
    
    
2. Select Settings.
   
    
3. Select Add account in the Personal or Accounts categories.
   
    
4. Once the screen with account type options is displayed, select Google.
    
    
5. Select Use your password or Sign in.
   
    
6. Enter the Email address and select NEXT.
    
   
   NOTE: Use the Navi buttons to use the on-screen keyboard and press the center button to select.
   
    
7. Enter the Password and select NEXT.
   
    
8. After Signing in.. displays on the screen, if Success appears, the setting procedure is completed.
   
   
   After you have successfully logged in, the Google icon with the mark G will be displayed together with the email address used to log in.
   
   
   NOTE: You can delete your account, sync your account (Android 7.0 Nougat only), or sync your apps by selecting the Google icon displayed.

• Prepare a Google account with a registered email address and password.

• For Android 7.0 (Nougat) or later:
  You can register more than one Google account on your Android TV at a time.
• For Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or earlier:
  Only one Google account can be used at a time. If you want to log in with a different Google account than the one that is already logged in, remove that account and then add the new one.
