Casting from smartphone or computer to the TV doesn't work

    Each of these steps represents a possible solution to this issue, check to see if the issue is resolved after completing each step.

    IMPORTANT: For Google TV™, the cast function is unavailable if the TV is in Basic TV mode (i.e. if you're not logged in to a Google Account). 
     

    Possible symptoms

    • The Android TV™ device isn't detected as a Google™ Chromecast™ built-in device.
    • The Cast icon isn't displayed on the mobile device.
    • The Cast icon is available on the mobile device, and the TV model is detected, but Cast doesn't work.
    • Error There was a problem connecting to XXX-XXXXX (Model name) appears and the connection fails even though the Cast icon is available on the mobile device and the TV model is detected.

    1. Check if everything's ok with your Wifi and time settings

    • Make sure that your casting device (smartphone or computer) and the TV are connected to the same wifi network.
    • Restart your wireless router. (Unplug the router, and wait for approximately 30 seconds before reconnecting the power.)
    • Make sure that your casting device and the TV have the same correct time settings. To set the date and time of the TV, refer to the following article: How to adjust the date and time

    2. Restart the app, phone, computer or TV

    • Close the app you're trying to cast from, and try again.
    • Restart your TV by holding the power button on your remote control and select the restart option. 
    • Alternatively, unplug your TV's power cord, leave it for 30 seconds, and plug it in again. 
    • Restart your smartphone or computer and try again.

    3. Check the TV App settings 

    Each of these steps represents a possible solution to this issue, check to see if the issue is resolved after completing each step

    Clear the data of the two Cast function apps, Android System WebView and Chromecast built-in.

    The next steps will depend on your TV menu options: NOTES:

    • Select Apps See all apps  Show system apps Cast function apps — Clear dataOK. (Android 9 or later)
    • Select Apps — Cast function apps — Clear dataOK. (Android 8.0 or earlier)
    • Do the same for Android System WebView and Chromecast built-in as well.

     

    Make sure the Chromecast built-in or Google Cast Receiver app is not disabled.

    • Select AppsSee all apps  Show system appsChromecast built-in or Google Cast ReceiverEnable. (Android™ 9 or later)
    • Select AppsChromecast built-in or Google Cast Receiver — Enable. (Android 8.0 or earlier)
       

    Uninstall the updates for Android System WebView and Chromecast built-in

    Use the following procedure to uninstall updates for Android System WebView and Chromecast built-in.

    Open the  Settings screen. How to access Settings

    The next steps will depend on your TV menu options:

    • Select Apps See all apps  Show system appsAndroid System WebViewUninstall updatesOK. (Android 9 or later)
    • Select AppsAndroid System WebViewUninstall updatesOK. (Android 8.0 or earlier)

    Do the same for Chromecast built-in as well. After uninstalling the updates, unplug your TV's power cord, leave it for 30 seconds, and plug it in again. 
    After this reset, update the two apps above to the latest version from the Google Play store.
