Preparation
Check the firmware version
Do I need to download it? This update utility is not necessary if your personal audio system has already been updated to firmware version 1.60.XXXX.
If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:
- Connect the unit to the PC with a LAN cable (not supplied).
- Connect the AC power cord (supplied) to the AC adaptor (supplied). Press the
(on/standby) button, to turn the power on.

- Launch a browser
- Enter the following URL in the address bar: http://169.254.1.1
- Select the language from Language Setup, if it is displayed
- "X.XX.X.XX" is the Version on the System Software Version in Device Details Menu

There are 2 easy ways to update the firmware on your SRS-X99:
Install
Updating your SRS-X99 over the Internet
We recommend this method as it's the simplest way to update. It usually takes about 3-10 minutes.
Note: You cannot update to the latest software, if the set is NOT connected to the internet (network).
Install the update
- Connect to the internet (network)
Note: When the speaker is connected to a PC directly using the LAN cable for the version checking, remove the LAN cable, and reconnect it to an Access Point. - If the speaker is turned on, press the
(on/standby) button, and turn it off
- Press the
(on/standby) button to turn the power on
- Wait until the LINK indicator stops flashing and stays lit in orange or pink. Whenever a software update becomes available, the UPDATE button lights up.
Note: The UPDATE button doesn't light up when software is the latest. - Tap and hold the UPDATE button until you hear beeps. When the software update starts, the UPDATE button starts flashing.Note: The speaker is not operational while updating
- The blinking (interval and condition) of the UPDATE button changes during the update progress
- The UPDATE button turns off and the speaker switches to standby mode or BLUETOOTH/Network standby mode automatically after the update is completed
- Check the version by following the steps described under how to check your firmware version. Then, the update is completed.
Possible issue during the update
The light flashes in red and the UPDATE button flashes in orange during the update
The software update failed. After this happens, you cannot perform any operation or use any function on the set except the power button. Please check the condition of the speaker by following these steps, and complete the software update using a USB flash drive.
- Tap and hold the
button to turn the speaker OFF.
- Tap the
button to turn the speaker ON.
- Wait about 3 minutes (or until the network connection completes), then check the UPDATE button status on the speaker.
The UPDATE light remains lit in orange

Note:
- Keep the speaker connected to the power supply and network during the update
- DO NOT remove the AC adaptor until the update is completed
- DO NOT power off the unit during the update
- Updating normally takes about 3 to 10 minutes. It may take more time depending on your network environment
Update via USB Memory Device and your PC
We recommend you use the Internet to update if you can. If not, you can use this method instead. You'll download the update to your computer, transfer it to a USB memory device, then transfer it to your SRS-X99.
Preparations for Firmware Update
Before downloading the firmware, please ensure that your computer is running one of the following operating systems and that you have the correct requirements for the USB flash drive:Supported Operating Systems
- Windows® 10
- Windows® 8.1
- Windows® 7 with Service Pack 1 (SP1)
- Mac OS X (10.4) or later
Recording Media
- USB flash drive should have a capacity of more than 256MB
Firmware Update for Personal Audio System via USB flash drive – Procedure A
Note:It is impossible to be back to the previous software version after software update.
How to download the firmware:
- Close all other windows and programs you are running apart from this page.
- Read the terms and conditions on this page and accept them by checking the tick box.
- Download the firmware update. The file SRSX99V1602994.zip154 MB (161,896,517 bytes) will begin downloading.
- Save the file to the desktop of your computer.
Note: If you are using Windows 10 or 8.1 the update file may be saved automatically in the Downloads folder. Click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and find the download file in the Downloads folder by using Explorer
Note: This is the dedicated update file for SRS-X99 only. You cannot use this file with other Personal Audio System.
How to prepare the downloaded file:
- Using Windows
- Right-click the downloaded file SRSX99V1602994.zip
- Click "Extract All"
- Click Extract in the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window that has opened
- The SRSX99V1602994 folder is now open on your computer's desktop In the "UPDATE" folder you will find 4 files: ”LUTE01-FW.BIN”, ”LUTE01-FW.ID”, ”LUTE01-FW_MB.BIN” and ”LUTE01-FW_MB.ID”
- Using Mac OS
- Double-click the saved file SRSX99V1602994.zip
- The SRSX99V1602994 folder is created on your desktop
Note: Depending on your operating system, the file may be automatically unzipped when it is downloaded. You may also not be able to unzip the file using the procedures described above, depending on the operating system that you are using. In the latter case, please use a decompression tool.
Copy the update files to the USB flash drive:
- Insert the initialized (formatted) USB flash drive into a USB slot on your computer
- Copy the UPDATE folder to the USB flash drive.
- Refer to the below diagram:

Update the audio system via USB:
- Connect the AC adaptor (supplied) to the DC IN 18 V jack of the speaker.
- Plug the AC power cord connected to the AC adaptor into an AC outlet securely.Set the NETWORK OFF/ON switch on the rear to ON
- Press the
(on/standby) button to turn the power on
- Wait until the LINK indicator slows down - it should take about 4 minutes
- Press and hold the AUDIO IN button and the "volume down" button
- The UPDATE button lights up after beeps are heard. Note:If you are connected to the network, you might already see the UPDATE button lit in orange. Even in this case, please carry out the procedure as described on this page and check the beeping sound.
- While the UPDATE button is lit, insert the USB flash drive to the DC-OUT ONLY (USB) port slot on the rear side of the speaker.
- When the software update starts, the UPDATE button starts flashing

If the indicator flashes in red and the update button in orange then the software update has failed.
You will need to download the firmware update to your computer, save it to a USB flash drive and then upload it to your speaker.
Follow the steps outlined below to do this:Note:It is impossible to be back to the previous software version after software update.
How to download the firmware:
- Close all other windows and programs you are running apart from this page.

- A folder named Update will appear on your desktop containing the following files: LUTE01-FW.BIN; LUTE01-FW.ID; LUTE01-FW_MB.BIN; LUTE01-FW_MB.
Note: The downloaded file can automatically unzip when using the operating systems above, but if you’re not able to unzip the files using these steps then you may need to use separate decompression software.
Copy the update files to the USB flash drive:
- Insert the flash drive into one of your computer’s USB ports
- Drag the Update folder from your desktop to the flash drive
- Refer to the below diagram:

Update the audio system via USB:
- Connect your speaker to a mains power socket using the AC adaptor supplied
- Move the network switch on the back of the speaker to the "on" position
- Switch off the speaker once the
indicator flashes red and the update button flashes orange.
- Place the flash drive containing the update files into your speaker’s DC-OUT ONLY (USB) port
- Switch the speaker on again Note: Please carry out steps 3 to 5 within 3 minutes.
- The firmware update will begin downloading to your speaker once the update button starts to flash.
Note: The speaker cannot be used during the download. - As the download progresses the pattern of the flashes slows before stopping once the update is complete
- The speaker will automatically switch to either standby mode or Bluetooth/network standby mode when the download is complete.
