Improvements over previous firmware versions

When the [Metering mode] is set to the [Center weighted] or [Spot] metering modes, the exposure will be locked when the focus is confirmed. (When shooting in AF mode).

Preparation

Check the firmware version following the instructions below:

If the firmware version is already Ver.1.10, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

  1. Turn ON the switch of the camera power
  2. Press the MENU button to display the menu
  3. Select Tab 3 of the Setup Menu using the horizontal buttons of the control button
  4. Select "Version" by pressing the down button of the control button



  5. Press the center of the control button
  6. The firmware version will be displayed on the LCD monitor



  7. Press the center of the control button to close the version display

System Requirements

  • Mac OS® X (v10.1.3 - v10.5)

    Your computer should have a card slot, or a card reader which is suitable for the recording medium.
  • Power source for the camera
    A fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FH50 or, the AC adapter AC-PW10AM (sold separately)
    An update can be performed only when the battery level is three remaining battery icons or more. We recommend that you use a sufficient battery or the ACPW10AM (sold separately).
  • USB cable supplied with the camera
    The cable will be necessary if your computer does not have a card slot which is suitable for the recording medium.

    Operations are not guaranteed if you use a commercially available USB cable.
  • Recording medium
    One of the following recording medium: Memory Stick PRO Duo or Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo SD Memory Card or SDHC Memory Card

    Please format the recording medium on the camera beforehand.Before formatting, please make a backup of the data on the recording medium. 

Install

  • Step 1 - Download the firmware update to your computer



    • Make sure that no program other than your Internet browser is running.
    • You must accept the terms of the End User Licence Agreement at the bottom of the page. After reading this agreement, click "Accept". A window will then pop up.
    • Click the "Download it" link corresponding to your Operating System.
    • Save the file to the Desktop of your computer (recommended).

  • Step 2 - Extract the downloaded file.



    Double-click the downloaded file to extract it. Depending on your Operating System, the file may be automatically extracted after downloading.



    The file name of the update file for DSLR-A230 is DSCA230V110.zip?fm=eu, and for DSLR-A330 is DSCA330V110.zip.

    The following file should be created after decompression:
    (*) The extension (*.APP) may not be displayed depending on the computer.
    (*) As this file is a firmware for the camera, there is no need to open the file.




  • Step 3 - Copy the update file to the recording medium (Memory Stick PRO Duo / Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo / SD Memory Card / SDHC Memory Card)



    • Prepare the recording medium (Memory Stick PRO Duo / Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo / SD Memory Card / SDHC Memory Card) to use for the update.
      Format the recording medium on the camera.

      Notes:

      • Firmware update may not start if the recording medium is not formatted.
      • Please note that all data including even protected images will be erased by formatting and cannot be restored.

      How to format the recording medium:

      1. Turn OFF the camera power, then insert the prepared recording medium into the camera. Ensure that the memory card switch is on the side of the inserted media.



      2. Slide the POWER switch to the ON position.
      3. Press the MENU button to display the menu, select the Playback menu-1 using the Control buttons.
      4. Select the "Format" in the Playback menu-1 with the Multi-selector then press the Center button of the Multi-selector.




      5. The confirmation window appears. Select [OK] with multi-selector, then press the Center button of the Multi-selector.
      6. After the format is completed, press the MENU button to turn off the menu.

    • Copy the update file onto the recording media
      Copy the update file (DSCAxxx.APP) onto the formatted recording media (Memory Stick Pro Duo / SD Memory Card).
    • If your computer has a card slot suitable for the recording medium.

      • Insert the recording medium formatted with the camera into the card slot of your computer.
      • Copy the decompressed update file (DSCAxxx.APP) onto the root folder of the recording medium.

        Note: the recording medium MUST first be formatted with the camera. Please backup your data before formatting, as all data will be erased (including protected images) during the formatting process and cannot be restored.

      • If your computer does not have a card slot compatible with Memory Stick Duo:

        Before copying the file, check the USB connection.
        • Insert the battery into the camera (or connect the AC adapter AC-PW10AM)
        • Insert a formatted recording medium into the camera (make sure the recording media is formatted with the camera, not with the computer).
        • Slide the POWER switch to the On position.
        • Press the MENU button to display 3 of the Setup Menu, using the control button.
        • Check that "USB connection" is set as "Mass Storage".



        • Connect the camera and the computer with the USB cable.



        • Select the decompressed update file (DSCAxxx.APP) and copy the file from the computer onto the root folder of the recording medium within the camera.

        • When the copying the file is complete, delete the USB connection.
  • Step 4 - Update the camera firmware.



    Important: When performing the firmware update, use fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FH50 or the AC adapter AC-PW10AM (sold separately).
    Do not remove the battery or the AC adapter during the firmware update process, otherwise the camera may be permanently damaged.

    1. Turn OFF the camera power, then insert the prepared recording medium into the camera. Ensure that the memory card switch is on the side of the inserted media.



    2. Press the MENU button, and turn ON the power while still pressing the MENU button.

    3. When the following confirmation window appears, use the control button to select "OK", then press the center of the control button to confirm the selection.



      If the confirmation window does not appear on the LCD monitor:

      • If the recording medium is not formatted, the firmware update may not start.
      • Please make sure that the update file (DSCAxxx.app) is in the root folder of the recording medium.
    4. The updating procedure will start, and the following screen will be displayed.



    5. Do not turn off the camera until the updating procedure is complete. (Update will take approx. 30secs)
    6. When the firmware update is complete, the following screen will be displayed. As the camera will automatically restart after approx. 10 secs, please wait for the camera to restart.



    7. After the camera has restarted, turn OFF the camera, and remove the recording medium. Next, check that the camera firmware version has been correctly updated.
  • Step 5 - Check the firmware version.
    1. Turn ON the switch of the camera power
    2. Press the MENU button to display the menu
    3. Select Tab 3 of the Setup Menu using the horizontal buttons of the control button
    4. Select "Version" by pressing the down button of the control button



    5. Press the center of the control button
    6. The firmware version will be displayed on the LCD monitor: Confirm that the version is "Ver.1.10"



    7. Press the center of the control button to close the version display
