    • Do I need to download it?This update utility is not necessary if your Walkman has already been updated to firmware version 1.10 by the automatic firmware update function. If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:
      • To check the information, connect the Walkman to your computer by using the USB cradle (supplied).
        On your computer, check “information.txt” in the [WALKMAN] folder.
        The “information.txt” contains the following information.
        01: Model name
        02: Memory capacity
        03: Firmware version

    Important notes:
    • When performing the firmware update, the unit is needed to have a free space about 50MB. Please confirm the size from the steps below.On your computer, check "information.txt" in the [WALKMAN] folder.The "information.txt" contains the following information.
      01: Model name
      02: Memory capacity
      03: Firmware version
    • Connect your Walkman and your computer using the USB cradle (supplied), and confirmed of Property.
    • Please transfer all tracks and data from the unit to the computer in advance, since the tracks and data may be lost when upgrading as they are remained on the unit.We cannot guarantee in case the tracks and the data are damaged or deleted by this update.

    How to download the firmware updater:
    1. Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights. If you are Windows 7 user or Windows Vista user, "Windows needs your permission to continue" message appears in the User Account Control dialog box. Click [Continue] to proceed, and follow the announcements.
    2. At the bottom of the page, read the disclaimer and agree to the terms and conditions by clicking on the checkbox. Then, click on the Download button.
    3. The download of the [NWZ-W270_V1_10.exe] (16.2MB) file will start.
    4. Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).
      For Windows 8 users:
      Under the initial settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in the [Downloads] folder. Click the [Desktop] tile from the Start screen and find the download file in the [Downloads] folder by using Explorer.

    Install

    Once the file has downloaded successfully, you're ready to install the Firmware update Ver.1.10 for NWZ-W273.

    1. After completion of the download, connect your units to your PC by USB connection.
    2. Quit all software running on your PC.
    3. Double click the saved "NWZ-W270_V1_10.exe" file, and work by following displayed massages. * Please do not disconnect the unit from the PC during upgrading.* During upgrading, USB connection is automatically controlled and "Connecting USB" indication is off with the control. Also, the USB disconnect message may appear on some computers.
    4. When the message of completing upgrading is displayed, click [Finish] button.
    After the update
    • Please confirm the version when the update program is installed successfully with following steps:
      • On your computer, check "information.txt" in the [WALKMAN] folder.The "information.txt" contains the following information. 01: Model name
        02: Memory capacity
        03: Firmware version The update program installation is succeeded when 2.01 is shown on the screen.
    • Please desconnect the USB cradle before transferring your Playlist. In case a Playlist is transferred after the update without disconnecting the USB crade, the Playlist becomes invalid. Once a playlist is invalid it needs to be deleted in Explorer and transferred again.
    Errors during update
    • In case the PC show "The update data file cannot be transferred because there is not enough available disk space in the device."
      The update may have failed. Click [Finish]. Follow the procedure again and retry to update.
    • Please desconnect the USB cradle before transferring your Playlist. In case a Playlist is transferred after the update without disconnecting the USB crade, the Playlist becomes invalid. Once a playlist is invalid it needs to be deleted in Explorer and transferred again.
