Signs your TV has power issues or is unresponsive

    Visual symptoms of no power

These are some of the symptoms of a TV that doesn't power on or isn't responsive:

    1. No LED light: There is no front light (LED) visible. The LED light normally lights up when the TV is ON.
    2. No Volume display: When you press the volume up or down button, you can't see a bar or number go up. The screen is black.
    3. Red LED light blinking: Take a look at this guide to troubleshoot a blinking red light.

Other issues that may appear as a power problem

In some cases, the TV may appear to have no power, while the issue is different.

    • TV freezes or becomes unresponsive
The TV may freeze after some time and stop responding to the remote control or buttons. In some cases, unplugging the TV is required to restart it.
    • TV keeps restarting or is stuck in a reboot loop
The TV may turn on and off repeatedly, show the Sony logo, or remain stuck on a loading screen.
    • Black screen after startup
The TV powers on briefly (sometimes showing the Sony logo), then the screen turns black.
    • TV turns off after a few minutes
The TV may switch off automatically after a short period (e.g. 10 minutes) and may only restart after unplugging.
    • LED lights change color or start flashing
The LED may turn green, then red, or flash in different colours (green, orange, yellow), sometimes with no picture or sound.
    • Clicking sounds or repeated start attempts
You may hear a clicking noise (relay sound) while the TV repeatedly tries to turn on, but the screen remains black.
    • TV behaves unexpectedly after an update
The TV may freeze, restart repeatedly, or become unusable during or after a software update.

If you are experiencing one of the issues above, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

    Check the input source

Sometimes, the TV is working, but the wrong input source is selected. If the screen is black but you can still see text or triangle shapes, press the Input button on your remote, then keep pressing it until you find the correct input.

It's usually located in the middle of the remote in the top left corner of the Navigation D-Pad (the Up/Down/Left/Right-buttons) or at the top close to the Power button.

If your TV has no power, try these steps

Please try the steps below to see if you can get your TV working again.

Step 1: Perform a TV restart with the remote (If the TV still reacts sometimes)

With the TV on: press and hold the Power button on the remote for about 5 seconds until the TV restarts.

Step 2: Do a test by using the power button on your TV

    1. Locate the power button on the TV (usually on the back or at the bottom of the frame).
TIP: If you can't find the power button, visit the following article: Power button location on BRAVIA TV models. Alternatively, check the start-up guide or reference guide for your TV.

    2. Press the power button to turn ON the TV.

    3. If the TV works from the TV button but not from the remote, the remote may need new batteries, a reset, or a software update. For more information, refer to the following article: Remote control troubleshooting. This article also explains how to turn your smartphone into a remote control.

Step 3: Check the power cable and perform a power cycle reset

    1. Verify if your TV power cable is correctly attached to both the TV and the power outlet. If you use a cable with an adapter block, make sure the cable is also firmly inserted at the adapter entry point, then try powering on the TV.
    2. After you've confirmed the cables, perform a power cycle reset:
      1. Unplug the power cable (and all other cables).
      2. Press the power button once and release it.
      3. Then leave the power cable out for 2 minutes and reinsert it.

Step 4: Check the power outlet

Test the outlet with another device that you know works.

If the outlet works, the issue may be with the TV.

If the device does not work, the outlet may be faulty. Try using a different outlet.

Step 5: Disconnect all external devices

Unplug all connected devices (such as game consoles or soundbars) from the TV. Then try turning the TV on again.

Step 6: Try a forced factory data reset using TV buttons (ONLY FOR ANDROID TV & GOOGLE TV)

The last step you can try is a forced factory data reset. This usually involves unplugging the TV power cable, pressing and holding the Power and Volume Down buttons on the TV, and plugging the power cable back in while holding the buttons. Check the linked article for the exact steps for your model.
