How do I perform a software update for my TV?

Applicable Products and Categories of This Article

The majority of the automatic software updates are provided by Sony through an active high-speed Internet connection. However, occasionally Sony offers an update through the antenna or a digital cable signal.
The benefits of these updates are to keep the TV up-to-date with the latest content, provide programming changes and to enhance the overall viewing experience.
The Automatic Software Update option in the TV menu should be set to On to keep the software updated to the most current version.

For Sony's Android TV models:

  1. Using the supplied remote, press the HOME button.
  2. For Android 8.0 (Oreo) only:
    Select Apps.
  3. Select Help.
  4. Select System software update.
  5. Select Automatic software download or Automatically check for update.
  6. Select On.

NOTES:

  • For AF9 and ZF9 series

    • A software update is available if a notification message for new software appears when you turn on the TV (the message will disappear automatically).
When the TV is connected to the Internet, you can check the contents of the update on the TV screen.
    • The software update will take about 15 minutes.
    • You can use your TV as usual during an update. Even if you turn off the TV, the update proceeds.
    • There is no downtime during the installation because the TV is already updated with the latest software when you turn on the TV.
    • Do not unplug the AC power cord (mains lead) from the outlet because the software update will stop.
    • If you turn off the TV after an update, the remote control may not work for about 10 seconds.
  • For other Sony's Android TV models

    • You must agree to the Sony Privacy Policy in order to receive software downloads.
    • The Software update will take up to 30 minutes.
    • During the software update, you will not be able to use your TV, and a screen with an update icon will be displayed.

For other models:

  1. Using the supplied remote, press the HOME button.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Product Support or Customer supports.
  4. Select Automatic Software Update or Automatic Software Download.
  5. Select On.
  6. Press the Enter button.

Follow the steps below to verify the latest system software is installed:

  1. From the Settings menu or the Help menu of the TV, check the current software version on your TV.
  2. Compare the latest software available with the one on your TV, and if the available software is newer, download and install the update.

IMPORTANT: A forced update is available for certain 2010 model televisions.
