The Sony Creators’ App is the companion for your Sony camera that unlocks additional features to help streamline your creativity. You may be familiar with many features, such as transferring images directly to your smartphone, but the Creators’ app can do much more.
Cloud Function
The key feature of the Creators’ App is access to Creators’ Cloud. This allows photographers and filmmakers to back up and store their images. With your Sony Creator account, you get 25GB of free storage. Using a compatible Sony camera, such as the Sony Alpha 7 IV, and a Wi-Fi connection, you can send images from your camera directly to Creators' Cloud while you are shooting or sitting and having a break. Follow the instructions in the Creators' App and on your Sony camera to set up Cloud Connection in minutes.
Online Storage
As mentioned, with your Sony Creators' account you get 25GB of storage, which can help back up key images whilst you are on a shoot. If you want more space, you can pay for additional storage. This gives you much more room to back up every image or video you shoot for a safe online backup should something happen to your memory card. You can back up JPEG, HEIF, raw image files, and video and proxy video files.
Differential Import
You have complete control over which memory card is backed up to the card, and if you have existing images or video on the card, these will be uploaded the first time you connect. However, from this point, you can set Differential Import, which ensures only new images are uploaded and any already imported photos in your Creators' Cloud account will be ignored. This means that as long as you have your camera connected to the internet, your Creators' Cloud folder will be up to date with all your images, with no doubling up
Adobe Lightroom and Google Drive Integration
One of the latest additions to the Creators' App is the ability to upload your images directly to Adobe Lightroom Creative Cloud Library or Google Drive via Sony’s Creators’ Cloud. Just link your Google or Adobe account in the User Information Menu. This will allow you to send images stored in your Sony Creators’ Cloud to your online Google Drive or Lightroom online service.
With the files safely in your Google Drive or Lightroom CC library, you will have access to your images on your computer, smartphone, or tablet, meaning that you will always have them to hand when you need to edit or share them.
Discover
The Discover feed within the app allows you to see what other Sony photographers and videographers are shooting. You can browse images and projects, like images, leave comments and ask questions. You can even search and filter for pictures taken with a particular Sony camera or lens. And of course, you can upload your images to add to the pool of inspiration.
Camera Upgrades
Through the Creators’ App, it is possible to update your camera to add new features in the form of licenses. These can be found and added under the Licenses section. At the time of writing, there are two licenses available. The first offers the ability to shoot with the Sony ZV-E1 and upload the 4k shooting rate to 120fps. The other license gives the ability to shoot at DCI 4K (4096 x 2160 resolution) at 24fps with the Sony Alpha 7S III.
Add LUTs
Some recent Sony cameras, such as the ZV-E10 II and the FX30, can load a LUT file to shoot with your pre-defined look in-camera. The Creators’ App makes the process of installing LUTs easy. Simply go to the User Information menu and then select LUT. Upload your LUT and follow the onscreen instructions to load it to your camera.
Location Tagging and Date & Time
Using your smartphone's GPS capabilities, the Creators' App can automatically add location data to your images as you shoot. Every photo you capture will be tagged with precise coordinates by enabling Location Information Linkage in the Camera Settings - Setup menu settings and your camera's smartphone connection menu. This feature is particularly valuable for landscape and travel photographers who want to remember exactly where they captured specific shots or for documenting locations for future visits. The location data is embedded in the image metadata, so it is available when you transfer images to your computer, making it easy to organise photos by location.
Also great for keeping things organised is automatically syncing your camera date and time with your smartphone. This is particularly handy if you travel across different time zones or want to ensure your images are correctly dated for archival purposes. Again, you can find the option in the Camera Settings - Setup menu.
