YouView functionality on Sony's Android TVs

YouView launched on Sony BRAVIA Android TVs via a software update on the 4th November 2015. The inclusion of YouView provides Sony customers with a seamless combination of live and catch up TV through the award winning scroll back user interface, plus a full suite of catch up players, including BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4 and Demand 5.

YouView on Sony BRAVIA TVs does not support recording in this first version of the service. With the full range of public service broadcasters (as above) offering over 17,000 pieces of content, there is something for everyone to watch.

YouView always recommends connecting an aerial and Ethernet cable to allow the full capability of the platform. To enjoy the full YouView experience you need to ensure good digital TV coverage and a recommended broadband speed of at least 3.0 Mb/s, for HD you’ll need more bandwidth.

Please refer to the table below which highlights the key differences between YouView mode and Sony mode.

NOTE: Twin tuner is only available on 4K TV sets

Sony will enable HDD recording functionality via a software update. Note this functionality is not available when YouView is enabled. In order to support HDD recording and Twin Tuner functionality where by you can record one channel whilst watching a different channel, an external hard drive is required upon which to record. The external hard drive needs to be connected into the back of your TV set via the USB port.

Please note that satellite features are still available if the YouView service is not enabled.  To enable Sony mode you will need to retune your TV set.
